While the entire world is eagerly awaiting the grand gala 'debut of Aamir Khan in his maiden TV act called 'Satyamev Jayate', will probably be the entire of Karnataka who may be sorely missing out the much anticipated show. The reason is that the local film and television industry has self imposed ban on dubbed content.
For starters, the Kannada film industry, which permits remakes in Kannada, doesn't allow release of dubbed version of any movie or serial, be it a Harry Potter or a 'Satyamev Jayate' by mutual consent. Despite the Kannada film chamber knowing that it won't stand in a court of law, the Kannada groups are firm. Commenting about this, 'Mukhyamantri' Chandru (Chairman, Kannada Development Authority) said that, out of the 30 districts in Karnataka, in 19 the mum tongue losing its importance. He also added that, since now the location is demanding it, they must change certain rules and norms also to offer protection to their interests, language, and culture.
Meanwhile, Anup Chandrashekaran (Business Head, Star-Suvarna) opined that he respected the feelings of a few of the trade bodies because Kannada as a language is getting pushed out. On the same time, he said that this rule need to be relaxed so far as educational programmes are concerned.
Amidst all this, the voices of discontent are very loud amongst the viewers. While some felt that if the said programme came in all languages, it will likely be better understanding for the entire people and it'll help us get united a few of the country, while others felt that the ban have to be lifted and that the show have to be converted to all languages.
One just hopes that an amicable solution is located out to this linguistic issue.
