Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi promo with Rowdy Rathore

If Sanjay Leela Bhansali has his way, his sister Bela Bhansali Sehgal's directorial debut Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi would have gotten its first and exclusive theatrical glimpse along side Rowdy Rathore which Bhansali has co-produced.

Unluckily for the protecting brother who wanted just one trailer, that of his sister's film, attached to Rowdy Rathore, the film's co-producers UTV had other plans .Other trailers have also found their way into the area of Rowdy.

The trailer of Akshay Kumar's home production Oh My God and Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan must share eyeballs with Bela Sehgal's trailer of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi.

Admits Bela, "Much as I WANTED it, my film's trailer couldn't be the one trailer with Rowdy Rathore. It's UTV's production too and so they desired to put other trailers. But my trailer gets a head start. Will probably be shown ahead of Rowdy Rathore starts."

Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV however denies that there has been any stress over the inclusion of trailers as opposed to that of Bela Bhansali Sehgal's film. "Sanjay Bhansali and UTV were both happy to incorporate the trailers of Akshay Kumar's production Oh My God and Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan. It was a collective decision."

Don’t accuse films for promoting smoking, urges Vivek Oberoi

On World No Tobacco Day Thursday, Actor Vivek Oberoi has urged people to forestall accusing Bollywood for popularising smoking as he feels that films are a mirror to society and never vice-versa.

“What all will you stop? Rape scenes, terrorism in films? Then let’s make cartoons. It’s very difficult. I BELIEVE it’s asking to strangle creativity. Because as you said, films are a mirror of the society. A mirror copies you, you shouldn't copy the mirror,” the 35-year-old said here Wednesday at a promotional event held for World No Tobacco Day.

“Films are a picture of life, it borrows from life, let life not borrow from films. Let’s set an example,” he added.

Meanwhile, when asked if he ever sets a condition of not smoking in a movie before signing it, Vivek said: “I don’t set this type of conditions. As an actor that’s not my right. The director, the script – it’s their decision.”

“Yes, I try, I ask them in the event that they can manage without this. In the event that they say yes, love it has happened in some films, I USED TO BE speculated to smoke and that i said I’d rather not and if it’s possible please adjust it and a few people adjust,” he added.

Vivek have been related to the Cancer Patient Aid Association for the past 10 years.

Tuning in to tune out stress – the Bollywood way

“I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life relating to music,” Albert Einstein once said. And lots of of our Bollywood stars, who get up to a tune and sleep to one, would agree.

Music is the basic stressbuster for plenty of Bollywood stars, seeking to deal with erratic shooting schedules, hectic travel and long hours under the arclights, let alone the unrelenting paparazzi gaze.

The tastes are eclectic. If Amitabh Bachchan’s tastes range from classical to the more contemporary Coke Studio, son Abhishek likes Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan; Bipasha Basu loves it all, soft rock and Sufi both; Priyanka Chopra loves old Hindi film music as does Sonu Sood; and Shahid Kapoor favours progressive house music.

And it stays with them – within the gym, within the car or during a make-up session.

As Bipasha put it, “music should be part of an actor’s life because it’s too taxing a profession”.

“If I'M stressed, I tell my manager, ‘Give me HALF-HOUR. I’ll just go and figure out and hear my favourite music.’ After I take a massage and hear some soothing music, I AM GETTING very energetic,” Bipasha told IANS.

“From the time I wake up, music stays with me. My alarm is often my favourite song, after which right from the time I start brushing my teeth, I hear a wide variety of music in line with my mood.

“My driver, my spot boys get bored stiff of my music. Right from the self-love van to my car to my house to my terrace, music follows me,” said the 33-year-old, who especially loves soft rock, Irish bands and Sufi songs.

At 69, veteran star Amitabh enjoys taking note of classical and instrumental music.

He often mentions on his blog his love for normal music and the way he likes tuning into evergreen melodies before he slips into bed. But he also enjoys new age, fusion music from Pakistan’s Coke Studio during his make-up sessions.

Son Abhishek listens international musicians like Tom Petty, Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Hendrix and David Guetta while driving – and he listens to all of it at top volume.

Former beauty queen Neha Dhupia admits music either makes or breaks her mood each day.

“Music defines my day. The primary song that I take heed to at first of the day sets the mood for me. It defines my night and helps me decide if I NEED to head out,” said Neha, who listens to plenty of rock bands, contemporary pop up to Bollywood music and old classics.

Bollywood’s new kid at the block Parineeti Chopra is a trained singer like her cousin Priyanka.

“Music is my stressbuster. I enjoy taking note of music, but there's no specific more or less music that makes my mood. I take heed to a wide variety of music. I'M a trained singer; so music certainly keeps me going,” said Parineeti.

Priyanka, who recently returned from the united states after engaged on her debut music album, loves tuning into house, hip-hop and dad music. She gets her dose of Bollywood music to boot and wakes up many mornings to evergreen numbers by Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.

Priyanka’s rumoured former beau and now her “Teri Meri Kahaani” co-star Shahid Kapoor is as much a music fanatic.

“Music is part of my life… I can’t do without that. Music keeps us all going,” Shahid, who prefers progressive house music, told IANS.

Actor Sonu Sood is reserved in his choice.

“I am an excellent fan of R.D. Burman; so I still take heed to his songs; I REALLY LIKE the melodies he gave in films like ‘Ijaazat’, ‘Masoom’ and ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’,” he said. – IANS

Censor Board to get stricter on animal welfare

When it involves using animals in films, it seems like Indian filmmakers are in for even tougher times ahead.

A letter from animal activist Maneka Gandhi to the Minister Of knowledge & Broadcasting Ms Ambika Soni has induce a flurry of activity in official quarters of the government

The letter dated 22 March 2012 from Mrs Gandhi to Ms Soni clearly alleges that Bollywood film producers are "creating a fool" of the Animal Welfare Board Of India (AWBI) and the censor board.

In the letter Maneka Gandhi says, "They (the producers) send a script but won't mention animal activity in India or will give wrong activity. Then when the film is shot they send the CD for approval to the AWBI without the schemes involving animals in it. The AWBI gives the NOC (No Objection Certificate) at the basis of the CD. The producer then reinstates the scenes and goes to the censor board with the NOC. These scenes tend to be very violent. The censor board, in preference to questioning these scenes which can be blatantly cruel, simply take it without any consideration that they've an NOC and pass the film."

The letter goes directly to give the instance of Sajid Nadiadwala's Housefull 2 where Akshay Kumar is seen wrestling crocodiles and a python.

Mrs Gandhi also accuses some regional officers of the CBFC of "blatantly ignoring the principles". She cites the instance of the Tamil film Adukulam where the rooster fights that were the film's mainstay had not been approved of by the AWBI.

The letter has triggered a flurry of discussion throughout the censor board. A source from the censor board says there are radical changes at the anvil in regards to the depiction of animals in Hindi films.

Says our source, "IT'S GOING TO now not be easy for filmmakers to circumvent rules regarding animals. As an example Nadiadwala shot the scenes with pythons and crocodiles outside India. That exempted the scenes with the animals from scrutiny and rectification by the AWBI and CBFC. The censor board is within the strategy of covering such loopholes."

Peddlers team faces trouble at airport customs

This time the customs decided to raid the Cannes brigade. The director and producer of the one Indian film to be in competition this year at Cannes - Peddlers were held up by the customs. Director Vasan Bala and producer Guneet Monga were held up on Wednesday evening on the Mumbai International airport after they were getting back from their very lucrative trip to Cannes. And focused on what - The Indian customs caught both Vasan and Guneet on the airport for carrying iPads.

Anurag Kashyap, the producer at the film Peddlers, gifted his director Vasan and his co-producer Guneet with iPads to celebrate the success of the screening of Peddlers as a part of the contest for the International Critics Week at Cannes Film Festival 2012. Since these were brand new, the custom officers asked for declarations at the pieces. Clearly, the gesture of the gift was reduced to a nasty episode and bad memory for both Vasan and Guneet.

Say's a production insider, "They asked for a bill and made them pay 36% duty for a present that they got from Anurag. Moreover, the custom officials were extremely rude and told both that they need to know this before traveling that there's a duty on carrying iPads. It was extremely embarrassing and albeit very unpleasant. They felt terrible that this was the welcome they got of their homeland after bringing pride to the rustic at a global platform."

When contacted, director Vasan Bala said, "It's strange that laptops are ok because it's old technology but because the iPad is new it gives some scope for detention and scrutiny. I also over heard it's an either/or situation either one laptop or one iPad. Both apparently cannot be carried without declaration. So Strange!! Anyway it's now at the list with cameras for declaration. It is best to carry nothing."

Producer of Peddlers, Guneet Monga said, "Our iPads were gifted to us by Anurag for the successful screening of our film Peddlers on the Cannes Film Festival. How do they expect us to hold receipts!! It is very troublesome and unnecessary and tall that the custom officer was involved in was to turn off on how they stop all Bollywood celebrities. Very disappointing to land in our own country and be treated like this. While I ATTEMPTED to reason it out I USED TO BE told that I'D be put behind bars. For what's something I'd love to know?"

Peddlers stars Gulshan Devaiah, Siddharth Menon, Nimrat Kaur, Kriti Malhotra directed by Vasan Bala, produced by Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap and distributed by Eros International.

Akshay Kumar gets rowdy with ‘Rowdy Rathore’ (Movie Preview)

After tickling audiences’ funny bones for just about seven years, Bollywood’s original Khiladi Akshay Kumar returns to what he's best at – action. He'll be seen packing some hardcore kicks and punches in Prabhu Deva directed “Rowdy Rathore” when it releases Friday.

Made with the cheap of roughly Rs.40 crore, the film is a remake of Telugu film “Vikramarkudu”. It's co-produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala. The film can be released in 2,300 screens in India and around 400 screens overseas.

The film revolves around Shiva (Akshay), who's a small-time conman. He's head-over-heels in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha), a sexy girl whom he met at a marriage he wasn’t invited to. The image perfect world of Shiva turns the wrong way up with the entry of six-year-old girl Neha, who believes he's her father.

Shiva also becomes the victim of a sequence of life threatening attacks by a gang of deadly criminals, who appear to know something he doesn’t. Within the quest to avoid wasting his life and love, Shiva stumbles upon a dangerous secret, something which takes him to a small town in Bihar.

That town is ruled by a ruthless MLA and the mafia he controls. The inhabitants of the small town discover a saviour in Shiva.

Akshay is alleged to have learned combat karate for his role within the film. He's seen sporting a rugged look within the film. The movie bosses had launched a web based hunt for Akshay’s search for “Rowdy Rathore”.

The cast and crew of the film had a difficult time shooting in Karnataka’s temple town of Hampi. The shoot was disrupted after activists alleged that the makers didn’t use the minimum choice of local dancers they had promised.

Sonakshi’s red sari act within the song “Chhammak challo chail chabeeli” has compelled people to attract comparisons with Kareena Kapoor’s “Chhammak chhallo” in “RA.One”. However, the actress brushes it off as mere co-incidence and insists the 2 songs shouldn't be compared.

Filmmakers has been arising with innovative ways of selling a movie or launching the music and “Rowdy Rathore” too tried a brand new trick. The film’s music was launched in a chawl in Mumbai.

This might be Sonakshi’s second release after blockbuster “Dabangg”.

After this, Akshay and Sonakshi will appear together in “Joker” and strike a hattrick with “Once Upon A Time Again”.

Two of the film’s songs have a slew of Southern and Hindi film actors creating a special appearance. While “Chinta ta chita” has Tamil star Vijay, Kareena Kapoor, Rajesh Hamal and Prabhu Deva himself, “Aa re pritam pyaare” has Maryam Zakaria, Shakti Mohan, Mumaith Khan and Amit Kumar. – IANS

“Saal ke andar ek jhagda aur do films kaafi hai (within a year a brawl and two films is enough)…I was very ashamed when my wife and kids explained to me that I shouldn’t have behaved in that way…I realised, mere bache itne bade ho gaye hain ki muje samjha rahe hain (my children have grown such a lot that they're advising me), I USED TO BE ashamed,” he added. – IANS

Miss Lovely shocks Cannes audience

After the Miss Lovely premiere in Cannes, Jonathan Romney of leading UK film magazine Sight & Sound stated, "A SHORT LIVED word for Miss Lovely in Un Certain Regard. This started out as a shock to the system - an Indian film like I'd never seen." At the director, Ashim Ahluwalia, Romney says, "He's an excessively impressive talent, and given the oppressive conventions of the Indian film industry, he's clearly an independent spirit after which some."

Early reviewers expecting a thriller were taken off-guard by the film's strong art-house style and weird storytelling technique. They will was too quick to write down it off, however, as major international critics have since weighed in.

Alissa Simon of Variety says, "Ashim Ahluwalia makes an excellent transition to features with Miss Lovely, an atmospheric tragedy set within the sordid world of Bombay's exploitation-film industry through the late 1980s. Folks that flow will find the joys is within the Mumbai-born, Bard College-trained helmer's bravura and baroque visual style, person who owes as much to docu and experimental filmmakers as to Scorsese, Welles and von Sternberg, plunging viewers into the characters' social milieu."

Simon Jablonski of AnOther Magazine writes: "Among all that glitters at Cannes Film Festival, there has been little quite as visually spectacular as Miss Lovely, directed by Ashim Ahluwalia as a part of India's New Wave scene. Constantly moving and switching between genre pieces - a gangster flick then a love story then an art house film. Stylistically it's harking back to 90s Chinese cinema corresponding to Chungking Express than anything you'd go together with the Bollywood tradition."

Since its premiere in Cannes, there was growing international interest within the usual film and the director. On May 25th, The brand new York Times and International Herald Tribune carried full-page profiles on Miss Lovely titled "Mumbai within the Bad Old Days."

Miss Lovely has since been sold to various international territories including to distributor Ad Vitam of France.

Ranbir as traditional Bengali groom

For his first onscreen wedding, Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor might be seen dressed as a standard Bengali groom, complete with dhoti, kurta and the topor (headgear worn by Bengali grooms).

Even though Ranbir did marry Katrina Kaif in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, it was shown as a court marriage and never a conventional wedding. But for Anurag Basu's Barfi!, where Ranbir plays a deaf and mute person, he'll be seen as a tender Bengali groom in a conventional Bengal wedding sequence. Since director Anurag is a Bengali himself, he was very particular about Ranbir's look. He saw to it that the costumes looked traditional and everything was perfect to the smallest detail.

Ranbir was very excited for his first wedding sequence for a movie. Both his co-stars Priyanka Chopra and Ileana D'Cruz were also present at the sets that day but you would need to watch the film to grasp whom Ranbir gets married to.

HC stays sale of land to Subhash Ghai

It certainly looks like the showman of Bollywood Subhash Ghai has run into trouble when it concerns acquiring land for any of his projects. Post all the fracas with the land owned by Whistling Woods, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday stayed the sale of 20 acres of land to Subhash Ghai's Mukta Arts from the Gram Panchayat of a village in Jhajjar district of Haryana.

The explanation for the HC staying the sale of the said land came following a petition filed by a 70-years-old retired teacher, Nafe Singh of Badhsa village in Jhajjar district of Haryana. The petition alleged favoritism by the Haryana government in granting permission to sell village common land to Ghai. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Alok Singh issued notices to Ghai, the state government and Jhajjar DC.

The bench has since asked them to file their replies by July 31.

Zayed talks about his new Ducati Street Fighter

Zayed Khan recently bought a Ducati Street Fighter 1100 cc and he cannot stop raving about it. The actor who has ventured out on Mumbai's mean streets on his Street Fighter says that the bike has some unique features which no other bike has. "THE MOST PRODUCTIVE feature concerning the bike is that it's stronger and leaner than the old model, and far more agile. The softer springs at either end and larger wheel angle area help the biker to weave during the bends with precision and control. Negotiating the traffic becomes extremely easy as you aren't bending how you do on other race bikes that only turn at 45 degrees making it difficult to transport out and in of certain situations. I REALLY LIKE it as it has the ability of a race bike but is designed in how to negotiate traffic," gushed Khan.

Zayed, who like every guy was serious about bikes ever since he was a kid, was only allowed a motorcycle by his parents many years back. That's when he bought a Fireblade. "I loved the Fireblade model too, but was always searching for something more exciting, and the quest ended with Street Fighter."

Ask him if he has every other model on his wish list and he laughs. "Getting this one was like a mission as it was difficult to convince my family who fear for my safety. As of now I'M proud of this one."

If presented decently, Sonakshi Sinha game for item songs

Sonakshi Sinha admits that she isn't bold enough to do an item number, but says she won’t mind doing one if presented in a right manner.

“I haven’t been offered any item number till now. If there's a good song, I'M convinced enough and i'm presented in a right way, then why not,” Sonakshi told reporters Tuesday at iSkate in Ambience Mall here.

The actress was here to advertise her forthcoming film “Rowdy Rathore” with co-star Akshay Kumar and director Prabhu Deva. It releases Friday.

What about “Chammak challo chail chabeeli” in “Rowdy Rathore”?

“‘Chammak challo chail chabeeli’ isn't an item song. It’s an overly situational song with a marriage as its backdrop,” she explained.

Sonakshi made her debut as a demure village belle in “Dabangg” and actioner “Rowdy Rathore” will see her in an identical desi avatar.

And the actress is in no rush to modify her image.

“I am not waiting to get a task so we can change my desi girl image, but still if I AM GETTING something, which requires me to be more westernised and my character is sweet I won’t mind doing it. At the moment I'M happy representing my very own culture,” she said. – IANS

“It is a humble moment, I HAVE TO say. For the last four seasons, all of the KKR players and our families were moving with a win the cup. We had all come from different states — some had come from Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi — and made this city our home. So we would have liked to win the gutss of the Kolkatans. Today I felt that I had won the heart of Kolkata,” he told a news channel.

Court stays Subhash Ghai’s Haryana land deal

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday stayed Bollywood filmmaker Subhash Ghai’s Mukta Arts from performing any activity on a 20-acre plot purchased from a gram panchayat in Haryana, a lawyer said.

Ghai planned to establish a movie institute at the land bought in October 2010 in Badhsa village in Jhajjar district, some 25 km from here.

Hearing a plea filed by Nafe Singh and others from the village, Acting Chief Justice M.M. Kumar ordered establishment at the land and the execution of the sale deed by the gram panchayat.

The petitioners’ lawyer Deepak Balyan told IANS: “We told the court that in line with the Punjab Village Common Lands (Regulation) Rules, the federal government could only auction such land.”

The petitioners claimed that the land belonged to the village community and the gram panchayat and the state government had no right to sell it to a personal firm.

The Badhsa Gram Panchayat had sent a resolution to the Haryana government Jan 6, 2010 to allow them to sell land to Mukta Arts. On Sep 22, 2010, the federal government allowed the panchayat to sell 20 acres of land on the rate of Rs.2,409,000 per acre. The deal was sealed Oct 11, 2010.

A court at Bahadurgarh in Jhajjar district earlier dismissed a public suit filed by villagers against Ghai acquiring the land. – IANS

Sanjay Dutt asks for added action scenes in Zilla Ghaziabad

After Ram Gopal Varma and Department it's producer Vinod Bachchan and his cops-and-thrills drama Zilla Ghaziabad (ZG) which appears to be giving its producers more excitement than he had bargained for.

Apparently, the film was completed and prepared for release when Sanjay Dutt saw the rushes and asked for added scenes to be shot.

Says a chum of producer Vinod Bachchan, "The film was ready and ready for a release prior to Dutt Saab's Department. But then Mr Dutt decided he had to shoot three more hi-tech action sequences."

Now there's this added pressure on his funds to shoot these three slick action sequences with Sanjay Dutt which might cost him no less than 1.5 crore rupees. Dibakar goes holidaying before Shanghais release

With his next big film Shanghai due for release on June 8, one would have thought director Dibakar Banerjee could be going the whole distance promoting the film to the optimum. However surprisingly Dibakar has quietly taken off for a vacation even before the discharge of his film. The director's sudden decision left his actors Emrran Hashmi and Abhay Deol amused and shocked. This is a norm within the industry that actors and directors go around to advertise their films previous to its release. However, this time the director decided to bend the foundations for himself and took off on a vacation within the serene locales of Himachal Pradesh.

Sources on the subject of the film said "Dibakar just left without informing anyone. He has finished all of the post production of his film and needed a break. Emraan and Abhay tried contacting him they usually realized he's not on the town and is busy holidaying."

"Both Abhay and Emraan are very excited on the feedback they have got receiving to this point for the film and wanted Dibakar's support at this juncture. Since they're both busy with the promotional activities they weren't aware that he has taken off on a vacation but after they did, they've been hounding him with calls to go back immediately. Dibakar is amused and was delaying and telling them that he'll be back soon. He's now expected to go back within the coming week" adds the source.

When contacted, Emraan Hashmi said, "I requested Dibakar to fly back. We have to gear up as we're just two weeks clear of the film's release."

Apparently Dibakar flew all the way down to Delhi for a press conference in between his holiday for a couple of hours as he had committed to them but he went back to Himachal Pradesh after creating a brief appearance.

“The reports about @RGVzoomin in today’s paper is inaccurate. I’ve not had one of these argument, I’m just pleased that I WILL explain it thru twitter. Irresponsible journalism, is rather annoying.” Well, hope all is in addition to Arjun statements!

After the critically acclaimed Shaitan, director Bejoy Nambiar has already finished shooting the primary schedule of his next titled David. In preference to Goa, the director has chosen the unexplored South of India to turn the stunning virgin beaches.

Bejoy says, "The setting of the movie required a small village in Goa. Although Goa is very large and lovely with its beaches, I preferred and chose Kerala and Mangalore to shoot within the virgin beaches."

The movie stars south star Vikram, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Lara Dutta, Vinay Virmani, Tabu, Isha Sharwani, Monica Dogra and Pralhad Kakkar. The director says, "IT'S NOT any genre film per se. This is a multi genre film. The second one schedule will start soon; I'M just working across the dates with all of the actors."

When Ram Gopal Varma hit Arjun Rampal and abused his kids

The shocking reports have pop out days after Ram Gopal Varma was said to have gone angry on Sanjay Dutt, blaming him for the disaster of ‘Department’ on the Box-office. We all know that the director could be very moody and will go from being totally friendly at one moment to precisely the intense opposite on the other. But when the theory that we’re going to inform you about on this story are real by any chance, it's surprising even by RGV’s standards.

As per inside sources, Ram Gopal Varma went over to Rampal’s home recently to relate a movie idea to him. However the visit didn’t prove to be as fruitful as 2 would’ve thought. First of all, when RGV got seated at his place, he cribbed concerning the presence of pets at his place. In fact, he began bad-mouthing all such people who keep dogs as pets. Arjun’s wife, Mehr, looked to have had enough of Mr Varma when she pleasantly asked him to go away the world. That’s when the things got unpleasant and RGV is reported to have hit Arjun within the heat of the moment.

We don’t have much idea about what followed thereafter, but all everyone knows is there's no smoke without fire. And with the mood that RGV possesses, anything is feasible. No surprise they haven’t done a movie jointly.
