Actress Sonam Kapoor won’t be starring in Mani Ratnam’s new Tamil flick which unveils experienced Tamil actor Karthik’s son Gautham. When Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to provide a movie as massy as Rowdy Rathore, he had only his friends and family from his childhood days in mind because the audience. Bhansali spent his childhood and growing-up years in a chawl and spent many evenings watching massy films within the dingy theatres within the area.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s best yet to come back – Anil Kapoor

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has given Bollywood several iconic films like “Parinda”, “Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.” and “3 Idiots”, however the audiences haven't seen his best yet, says his friend and actor Anil Kapoor.

“I think his (Chopra’s) best is yet to come back. I still feel that as per his dedication, sincerity and the type of vision he has, he has not yet not made his best film till now,” Anil told reporters here.

Chopra has completed three decades within the Hindi film industry and has organised a six-day retrospective of his films in association with a cinema chain.

The first film, showcased Thursday, was the 1989 release “Parinda”.

Anil says he has strong memories connected to the film, about Mumbai’s underworld gangsters.

“I remember when Vinod had made the poster, it read ‘The strongest film ever made.’ I told him that folks will laugh, but it surely was (really) essentially the most powerful film at that time.

“I remember when he came to me to relate the film, he told me that he had only Rs.17 and he had no money to make the film, but he desired to make ‘Parinda’. So, that’s the way in which the adventure started,” said Anil.

Blood Money – Movie Review

Film: “Blood Money”Starring: Kunal Kemmu, Amrita Puri, Manish Chaoudhary, Sunil SickandDirector: Vishal MahadkarRating:

It would take the Bhatts, those grand-masters of morality tales, a long time to live down this one. Clotted with cliches and cluttured with trite situations straight out of the Bhatts’ earlier impressive oeuvre, “Blood Money” dives right into a cesspool of predictable characters who we all know are heading nowhere.And we couldn’t care less.

Debutant director Vishal Mahadkar seems to vacillate between high-anxiety and laziness. He lets the plot hang loose on the most necessary junctures prompting us to wonder whether the director lost interest, similar to we do after a point.

There are seeds of a fascinating morality tale here. A bright-eyed eager-to-succeed MBA from India arrives in Cape Town along with his equally wide-eyed wife.They soak up the grand lifestyle with squeals and gasps that kindergarten children would recognise after they visit the zoo for the primary time.

The scenic location is shot with a type of inert aloofness that involves the camera when it knows it’s shooting a no-go.

Once in Cape Town, the administrators simply flops all the way down to a type of cinematic siesta from which the narrative seldom wakes up. Plodding through a chain of long-winded images denoting the protagonist’s (Kunal Khemu) descent right into a diamond-studded hell, we're left with a movie that has an excessive amount of to say, and doesn’t say it well enough to carry our interest.

Nevertheless it fails to generate any roughly original perception at the subject. From Mumtaz in Vijay Anand’s “Tere Mere Sapne” to Sonal Chauhan in Kunal Deshmukh’s “Jannat”, leading ladies have forever watched their husbands lose their moral ground without a hope of redemption. Puri is far back within the queue.

“Blood Money” suffers from a significant deluge of monotonous scenes where the actors speak their line as if in a radio play. We hear them loud and clear. But we fail to empathize with the cleverness that the dialogue tries to succeed in in scattered showers.

By the time Khemu’s character takes that tumble within the hay at the office desk with the office whore, we all know the film and its main character are doomed.

Salvation on this film is that exit door which we rush to when the end-credits roll.

Sonam Kapoor has opted out of Mani Ratnam's new Tamil film which launches veteran Tamil actor Karthik's son Gautham. Says a source, "At this point in her career going South-wards for Sonam would give the incorrect signal to the filmmakers in Bollywood. Mani had his heart set on Sonam since she suited the young innocent effervescent sophisticated girl's role to the hilt. He needed to search for a last-minute replacement."

Interestingly, the role has now gone to the rapidly-upcoming Tamil-Telugu actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu who, we have now reason to believe, has bagged another role in Tamil that was earmarked for Sonam.

Tamil-Hindi director Gautham Menon's next Hindi film Assi Nabey Poore Sau had an overly interesting role for the feminine protagonist who needed to go from age 15 to twenty-five. It was finally felt that Sonam could be unable to appear 15, regardless of how hard she tried.

Jackky Bhagnani is the most recent to enroll in the bandwagon of Bollywood actors who've starred in Hindi remakes of south films. Jackky is prepared to play the romantic lead within the remake of the super hit Telugu film Seema Tapakai.

Vinod Chopra Production is the primary production house in India to celebrate a retrospective in their films made in last 30 years. Ranging from Vinod Chopra's first film Khamosh to all of the films made under the banner like Parinda, 1942 Love Story, Pareenita, Kareeb, Mission Kashmir, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai and three Idiots - all 11 films could be showcased.

After Prateik walked out of Tigmanshu Dhulia's Milan Talkies, there have been rumors of the 2 not getting along. But brushing all of the rumors aside, ace director Tigmanshu Dhulia and the talented Prateik have expressed their want to interact whenever they've an excellent project in hand.

Tigmanshu, who has given back to back, hit films like Saheb Biwi AurGangster and Paan Singh Tomar with non conventional stars like Jimmy Sheirgill, Randeep Hooda and Irrfan Khan within the lead clearly doesn't require a bankable star to deliver a hit, all he requires is talent.

Prateik, who has proven his acting mettle with films like Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na,Dhobi Ghat, Dum Maaro Dum and Aarakshan expressed his work with the director. He says, "I LIKE the flicks that Tigmanshu sir makes, we couldn'twork on Milan Talkies as a result of some unfortunate circumstances for the reason that film was earlier to be produced by some production house but now every other production home is making it. Things just didn't workout in between of all this but I WANT to get directed by him whenever things determine for us."

Tigmanshu adds, "I'VE seen Prateik's work and that i think he's very talented, he has a touch of his mother's acting prowess in him. Unfortunately, Milan Talkies didn't work for us as a result of some unavoidable reasons but I NEED to cast a skilled young lad like him in future."

Filmmakers to moderate discussions on VVCs films

Vinod Chopra Production is the primary production house in India to celebrate a retrospective in their films made in last 30 years. Ranging from Vinod Chopra's first film Khamosh to the entire films made under the banner like Parinda, 1942 Love Story, Pareenita, Kareeb, Mission Kashmir, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munnabhai and three Idiots - all 11 films can be showcased.

The retrospective may be done nationally in all PVR Cinemas from March 29 to April 4.The finest a part of this retrospective is that known filmmakers will moderate an artistic discussion after every film.

The schedule is as follows:

March 305.30 - 6.30 pm: Discussion on Parinda moderated by Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra.

7 - 8 pm: Discussion on Parineeta moderated by Sujoy Ghosh

March 317 - 8 pm: Discussion on Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai may be moderated by Sriram Raghavan.

April 17 - 8 pm: Discussion on Khamosh moderated by Rohan Sippy.

April 27 - 8 pm: Discussion on 1942-A Love Story moderated by Imtiaz Ali.

April 47 - 8 pm: Discussion on 3 Idiots moderated by Ram Madhwani.

Some of the actors of those films may also be joining the discussion. That is for the primary time that this sort of step have been taken.

Actor Arjun Rampal says he can be happy if Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Heroine” or Sudhir Mishra’s “Inkaar” are showcased on the forthcoming Cannes film festival.

“I would like to that's. a movie that deserves to be there. If ‘Heroine’ can also be showcased there, it is going to be great,” said the actor.

In fact, Bhandarkar’s “Heroine” was announced with Aishwarya Rai on the Cannes last year. But later, because of the Ash’s pregnancy, the director needed to replace her with Kareena Kapoor.

“There is a Sudhir Mishra film to boot that I'VE just finished, that's also perfect for Cannes. So yeah, if I WILL showcase that, great,” the 39-year-old said while being presented because the brand ambassador of alcohol brand Chivas.

The actor is anticipated to make an appearance at this year’s Cannes festival, which begins May 16 as Chivas is the official partner of the development.

While “Heroine” stars Kareena within the title role, “Inkaar” has Chitrangada Singh opposite Arjun.

Salman to do item number in Son Of Sardar

Salman Khan has agreed to do an item number in pal Ajay Devgn's forthcoming film Son Of Sardar and that too without spending a dime. For a peppy track within the film, Ajay and his team zeroed down on Salman as they felt he was probably the most suitable man for the song.

As Ajay offered Salman to do the song, he immediately agreed to do the song and that too freed from cost. The song may be shot in a studio Mumbai, where a different set may be built for the song.

Salman and Ajay's friendship goes back an extended way, they have got acted together in films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and London Dreams. Last year Ajay had even done a cameo in Salman's film Ready.

Saif ready to play Bhopali detective

The Artist inspires Pankaj Kapoors Happi

The success of the black-and-white silent film The Artist seems to have goaded the makers of the brand new Pankaj Kapoor film Happi into action.

Like The Artist, Happi featuring Pankaj Kapoor in a Charlie Chaplinesque avatar, was originally shot in colour and was converted into black-and-white. There's now talk of turning Happi right into a silent film, identical to The Artist.

However, Bhavna Talwar denies being inspired by The Artist in any direct way.

Says Bhavna, "We did convert our film into black-and-white. But that happened long before The Artist was completed and released. After we selected the conversion, we had never heard of The Artist. But yes, it's great to look some another filmmaker in another a part of the sector thinking at the same lines."

In fact, it may possibly now be revealed that post the success of The Artist, Bhavna Talwar is planning to ready a version of Happi for the international market.

"Why not? If the French can do it, make an international impact with a warm and emotional black-and-white film, so can we," reasons Bhavna.

Actress Kareena Kapoor, who has lately been doing many item numbers in Bollywood, is gearing up for her next item song in Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Heroine”.

The director says 40 percent of the shooting was done.

“Forty percent of the film was finished. From (April) 10th, we will be able to again have a nonstop shooting and by September the film may be released,” he said.

Bhandarkar also sought to disclaim speculation that the film relies on Manisha Koirala’s life.

“This film isn't in line with Manisha Koirala. It's absolutely wrong. Lot of items have been written concerning the film before. I'VE created a personality called Mahi Arora who's today’s girl. The film is all about how she witnesses the ups and downs in her life,” he said. – IANS

“My grandfather Raj Kapoor was biased towards Karisma because either one of them had blue eyes. I'VE green eyes as that of my father,” Kareena told reporters.

“During summer seasons he would give two mangoes to Karisma and that i would finally end up getting only one. I needed to work flat out to delight him,” she added.

The statue was unveiled on the inauguration of UTV Stars’ property Walk of the celebs on the Bandra Bandstand Promenade.

The event witnessed the felicitation of the ‘Kapoor Khandan’, probably the most legendary families of Indian cinema.

Kareena was accompanied by father Randhir Kapoor to unveil her grandfather’s statue.

“I am wanting words, what more would I ask for. My father and my grandfather had made me who I'M. Which girl has got this chance guys,” she said.

“Kapoors have acting of their veins and blood. I'M waiting for walk down a memory lane. What better gift than this to the 100 years of Indian cinema.”

Director Madhur Bhandarkar joined Kareena in unveiling the signatures of her great grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Sunil Dutt and Nargis.

Madhur said: “The way Hollywood has its Walk of Fame even the Hindi film industry now has its Walk of Stars.”

A special picture was clicked with Kareena sitting within the lap of the statue of her grandfather where she said: “This is the one lap that Saif would allow me to sit down on.”

The event was held at a five-star hotel but simultaneously the tiles devoted to Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Karisma and Kareena were also installed at Bandstand.

A special honour brass statue on a bench of cinema greats Raj Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor was also installed. – IANS

Around a year back there have been strong talks about Rohit Shetty remaking Sanjiv Kumar starrer Angoor with Shah Rukh Khan. Just when the rumours had settled, grapevine has it that Ranbir Kapoor can have been approached to step into the similar shoes. The one tiny problem though is that except Ranbir himself, everyone else appears to be privy to the development.

"Ranbir has absolutely no idea from where are these rumours originating. He hasn't even heard about such a film and nothing have been offered to him yet. It's strange that his name have been dragged into this so-called remake that is speculated to go on floors soon", says an in depth associate of the actor.

The film in question is meant to be directed by Pahlaj Nihalani, producer of many hit films like Aankhen, Shola Aur Shabnam, Paap Ki Duniya, Aag Hi Aag and Ilzaam. A lot of these films were successful on 80s and 90s though and he was presupposed to have shown keen interest in roping in Ranbir Kapoor for his comeback affair.

"He has actually chosen William Shakespeare's play 'Comedy of Errors' which was further adapted into films like Angoor [Sanjiv Kumar, Deven Verma] and before that Do Dooni Chaar [Kishore Kumar, Asti Sen]. Despite the fact that he's saying that his film with Ranbir is a remake of his own Aankhen and attributing the source to be Do Dooni Chaar, if truth be told that with the exception of the double role bit for both lead actors, there may be nothing similar about them. There are too many sources being mixed up here when as a matter of fact that Aankhen had nothing to do with either Do Dooni Chaar or Angoor", says an insider.

So as to add to the (unintended) confusion on this (hardly a) comedy of error, there also are talks of not only Ranbir but even Shahid Kapoor signed for the film.

While Shahid Kapoor chose to disregard this type of talks and was unavailable for comment, Ranbir was caught without warning with such so-called 'developments'. He categorically denied doing the sort of film and said, "THIS IS NOT true. If truth be told leave aside engaged on the film; I HAVE NOT even met Mr. Pahalaj Nihalani."

Women more assertive, men more macho in Bollywood now

The script has changed in Bollywood within the last 60 years – the ladies are more worldly, the lads more macho and the cinema itself more techno-savvy, almost pretty much as good as Hollywood, says veteran cinema writer and critic Bhaichand Patel.

“The women in Hindi cinema are more assertive though no less beautiful (than yesteryear ones), they sometimes smoke on screen and they're equal to men. Mainstream cinema was a fair trend-setter for equality of gender – it's happening now,” Patel told IANS in an interview.

“The hero, however, has not changed up to women though they – the crop represented by Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Amitabh Bachchan – are a bit more physical and action-oriented than the early superstars like Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar”.

A former UN official, Patel studied filmmaking at The big apple University.

His new book, “Bollywood’s Top 20: Superstars of Indian Cinema”, launched Monday, has captured the entire structure of Indian cinema and its changing face with essays about 20 top stars at the basis in their popularity and talent.

“The 20 stars we've chosen don't seem to be necessarily essentially the most talented. But they were – a few of them still are – the most well liked in their times…Some of them have also created spectacular flops, the largest dud of all times, but that comes within their territory,” he said.

“The three stars I'D have loved to incorporate was Nadia, Nutan and Vyjayanthimala. Nadia was a perfect actor – she was jumping from train to train, hitting villains with whips and her horse was referred to as ‘Punjab ka beta’,” he said.

The writer, who was baptised into cinema as a child with ‘Fearless’ Nadia’s “Bombaiwalli” in 1941, says belying the notion that the anti-hero in Hindi cinema is a brand new trend, “the dark heroes have always been there – even within the old days”.

“I recall a movie, ‘Amar’, by which Dilip Kumar rapes a woman played by Nimmi after which marries her. However the movie flopped as it was prior to its time…Now heroes like Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt play villains and negative characters. Rishi Kapoor plays a foul man in ‘Agneepath’,” Patel said.

“But heroines are reluctant to play mothers. After 35-40 years, they're past their prime and it’s over for them,” Patel said.

Today’s cinema could be very different from those 30-40 years ago, music isn't pretty much as good because the music of the golden era of Indian movies within the 1950s.

“I miss the nice actors,” Patel said.

“From 1931, when sound was introduced in cinema, till 1952, they shot movies with the similar camera because through the Nehru era, they may not import anything. Indians have a practice for repairing everything. But now they're technically superior. Films like ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘Dhobi Ghat…’ are pretty much as good as anything made in Hollywood,” he said.

He said “his three favourite movies within the recent times include ‘Delhi Belly’, ‘Peepli Live’ and ‘Dev D’”.

The writer said “the 1970s and 1980s were terrible decades for Hindi cinema”. The muses were in retreat and the movies were uniformly bad, he said.

“Cinema halls built 50 or so years earlier had decayed, with rats taking over…Amitabh Bachchan played the angry young man while Dharmendra’s favourite phrase gave the look to be ‘kutte kamine’,” he said.

There was a large number of fisticuffs, little or no by means of plots; Bappi Lahiri was a successful music director, he said. “Need I say more? As a result, the center class gave up going to the theatres and watched pirated videos of foreign films at home,” he said.

Bollywood was “up and running again for many years now…the multiplexes that experience arise have comfortable seats and there's no shortage of screens”, he said.

After Esha Deol’s engagement with businessman beau Bharat Takhtani, individuals are eagerly waiting to listen to about her D-day. But her mother and veteran actress Hema Malini says they have got yet to decided the marriage date.

According to a contemporary tabloid report, Esha and Bharat are planning to replace the marriage vows in July, but Hema told IANS: “Wedding dates don't seem to be yet confirmed. I DO KNOW a tabloid has published the marriage dates for May or July. I WANT to stick mum in this matter. Whenever the dates, printings are done, we will be able to make an official announcement.”

Esha got engaged to Bharat Feb 12 in a personal ceremony at her Juhu home.

Daughter of Hema and Dharmendra, Esha began her tryst with Bollywood in 2002 with “Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe”. She went directly to feature in films like “Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne”, “Na Tum Jaano Na Hum” and “Dhoom”.

Last year, Hema tried to resurrect her 29-year-old daughter’s movie career with “Tell Me O Kkhuda”, nevertheless it didn't ring a bell with the audiences. – IANS

‘Bathroom singer’ Akshay Kumar flatters girls with ‘Bheege honth’

He calls himself a rest room singer, yet Bollywood star Akshay Kumar didn’t consider carefully before singing romantic number “Bheege honth tere” for the leading ladies of his forthcoming film “Housefull 2″.

Akshay was here Monday for the launch of the brand new issue of Stardust magazine with co-stars Jacqueline Fernandes, Asin Thottumkal, Zarine Khan and Shazahn Padamsee and he sang for them on the event.

“Please dim the lights,” he said before he started singing, to set the mood for “Bheege honth tere”, which happens to be certainly one of his favourite romantic numbers.

Akshay was out of tune, but didn’t let go. He stood confidently and sang all the song with the support of background music.

Of course, he was cheered by girls within the crowd on the F Bar and Lounge on the Ashoka Hotel.

“If my films don’t work, maybe I WILL start singing only! But I sing very badly. I’m a rest room singer but what to do … I REALLY LIKE singing. I ASSUME loads of Indians are bathroom singers,” he said. – IANS

Walk of the celebs initially Kapoors

The preferred Kapoor family of Bollywood can be felicitated with tiles and two statues on the inauguration of UTV Stars’ property Walk of the celebs on the Bandra Bandstand Promenade here Wednesday.

The property, corresponding to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, can be launched within the company of Kareena Kapoor and her “Heroine” director, Madhur Bhandarkar.

To begin with, tiles devoted to Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu, Karisma Kapoor and Kareena can be installed Wednesday.

Also as a different honour, brass statues of Raj and Shammi might be installed too.

The Walk of the celebrities will feature hand imprints of Bollywood celebrities. They are going to give their hand imprints in a clay cast, in an effort to be processed in brass later and can be placed of their presence subsequently.

Nikhil Gandhi, business head at UTV Stars, had earlier told IANS that the “deserving, glamorous and massive stars who've contributed so much to Indian cinema” will find their hand imprints at the “walk”, which was earlier being called the Bollywood Walk of Fame.

Even actor Riteish Deshmukh has floated an analogous project in Mumbai. He calls it The Legends Walk. – IANS

‘No Entry Main Entry’ to move on floors soon

Filmmaker Anees Bazmee, who's looking to finish the script of “No Entry” sequel, says he desires to start the shooting of the film once possible.

The sequel is titled “No Entry Main Entry”.

“I will take yet another month to complete the script. After I finish scripting, we will be able to start shooting once possible. I can’t wait to shoot the film. It’s going to be amusing riot,” Bazmee told IANS.

“The film has an enormous star cast, so we wish to lock the dates of the celebrities before we go on floors,” he added saying male leads was finalised, but he has yet to choose actresses.

“Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan was finalised. For the actresses, I WILL BE ABLE TO have a gathering with Boney Kapoor after which we can decide. We would repeat a few of our previous actresses, but nothing is finalised,” he added.

“No Entry” was released in 2005 featuring Salman, Anil, Fardeen, Esha Deol, Lara Dutta and Bipasha Basu and it was a large hit. – IANS

Dhoom 3 shooting begins May 2012 as planned

There were rumours that the eagerly awaited Yash Raj Film (YRF) Dhoom 3 were indefinitely postponed and that it might be shot after Aamir Khan completes certain other future commitments. However YRF has categorically stated that that is absolutely baseless.

Dhoom 3 starts shooting in May 2012 and Aamir Khan joins the schedule in June as per plan.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, Dhoom 3 is written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, who had also written Dhoom and Dhoom 2

Apart from Aamir Khan, who plays the anti-hero within the film, and Katrina Kaif, both Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will continue of their now iconic roles of Jai Dixit and Ali.

The film is slated for a 2013 release.

Just days after rumours originated about Talaash being very similar to Kahaani, only to die down with the makers issuing a transparent statement around this being true, there's a latest development. Now Aamir Khan has decided to make best use of the time available in hand, because of which there could be multiple focus screenings for the film in a couple of weeks from now.

"Yes, there are focus screenings confirmed for Talaash", says our well placed source, "THERE'S just half an afternoon of patchwork remaining for the film and once that may be in place, the film could be able to be shown to focus groups. Individuals who could be watching the film are being picked through very stringent mechanism as Aamir doesn't want the suspense element to move out. However, he doesn't need to include 'yes men' either. He wants a good feedback from individuals who handle the film."

There could be four to 5 screenings happening within the month of May. While Mumbai probably will be the only venue, these screenings could be spread over a period of 15 days in order that Aamir and director Reema Kagti can spend good time with the groups and be aware of the feedback.

"IT MIGHT BE wrong to think though that Aamir is doing it specifically for Talaash simply because there were rumours spreading across the film. Actually he have been doing this for a very long time. Focus group screening of Taare Zameen Par had given him superb idea concerning the commercial acceptance of the film. 3 Idiots, which was shown only till the interval point to make a choice people, had made everyone sure that it had blockbuster written far and wide it. At the other hand, for a few films there have been slight alterations made according to the feedback that had poured within the. trend is solely continuing with Talaash", says a source.

Actually there were other filmmakers who've taken cue from Aamir's model of 'soul searching' the film and encouraged focus group screenings before the overall edit is in place for Censor approval. If it is Karan Johar (Dostana, Get up Sid, My Name Is Khan, I Hate Luv Storys) or Vishal Bhardwaj (Kaminey), there are lots of who've been part of the craze.

"Well, I'M told that Aamir have been conducting such screenings because the days of Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak so it won't be anything new for Talaash. I'M waiting for response from such screenings now", says Reema Kagti. "THE REALITY of the problem is that Tiger is a family friend's son, but he was neither considered, nor signed for AASHIQUI 2," Mukesh Bhatt clarifies, "Had we decided to launch Tiger in AASHIQUI 2, why would we go ahead with a talent hunt within the first place? Tiger is a smart looker and i'm sure he has terrific potential, but we're not launching him in AASHIQUI 2. The lead pair can be chosen only in the course of the talent hunt."
