Sleepless In Seattle writer to pen Rajiv Gandhi bio-pic

Ashutosh Gowariker had signed certainly one of America's most distinguished and popular screenplay writers and directors David S. Ward to jot down the now-shelved bio-pic on Gautam Buddha.

Ward has now been roped in to write down the bio-pic on Rajiv Gandhi to be directed by Bhavna Talwar on the end of this year.

Ward has to his credit the screenplay of such Hollywood masterpieces because the Robert Redford gems The Sting and Milagro Beanfield War. In fact, Ward's association with Redford is long and hugely productive. Ward has also written such evergreen Hollywood flicks as Sleepless In Seattle and Major League. He has also directed the blockbusters King Ralph and Cannery Row.

This brilliant screenplay writer will now be spending the following twelve months of his life in Delhi tracking down the life and times of 1 of our most charismatic politicians, Rajiv Gandhi for Bhavna Talwar's film.

Says a source, "If not Buddha then Rajiv Gandhi...Bhavna had met Ashutosh Gowariker who recommended Ward after Buddha was shelved. That's how David Ward came into the Rajiv Gandhi film. Ward arrives in a month and can research and write on Rajiv from Delhi while Bhavna Talwar will do something about pre-production."

When contacted Bhavna Talwar confirmed, "Yes, it's David Ward who will write my Rajiv Gandhi film. Initially I BELIEVED of scripting it myself. But I MADE UP MY MIND against it for 2 reasons. One, I WISHED an outsider's perspective at the brilliant someone and statesman that was Rajiv Gandhi. I DO KNOW Ward's work. He possesses the sensitivity to drag it off effectively. Secondly, if I focused on writing the film, I'd haven't any time for the entire other vast preparations required to start out the film."

Censor board asks Dhulia to tone down language in Paan Singh Tomar

Although the censor board has shown an unprecedented liberality by passing an inherently violent story like Paan Singh Tomar with a 'UA' certification (suitable to be seen with parental guidance), it wasn't easy getting a censorial clearance for the film.

Says a source as regards to the project, "Though the film is about within the Indian heartland and the characters speak a coarse raw earthy bhasha, they do not use expletives as such. There may be just one character played by veteran actor Rajendra Gupta, whose colourful language had the censor board running for the scissors and gunning for the gaalis."

Dhulia apparently needed to fight tooth and nail to prove that cleaning-out the character's language could be tantamount to emasculating him. Tigmanshu needed to wage an extended battle, and still he needed to finally expunge the expletives.

"There was a specially heated argument over one sequence towards the top where Irrfan's character is talking to Gupta," informs the source.

When contacted Dhulia said, "Yes, the censor board did have an issue with Rajendra Guptaji's dialogues. He plays Irrfan Khan's coach within the film. And he uses behench*d in his language liberally and usually. While I did conform to eliminate among the objectionable expletives, there is a scene towards the tip when Irrfan visits his old coach who asks, 'Why have you ever come to peer me?' Irrfan says he's come to listen to his gaali. Now, not to have a gaali here can be impossible. The entire sequence is predicated at the gaali."

Dhulia apparently argued his case. However the censor board was adamant, arguing that a 'UA' certification meant children would hear a member of the training community abusing in a movie.

Finally, Dhulia needed to accept a compromise.

Says the director, "I agreed to let Gupta Saab say 'behen' after which rather than the second one a part of the cuss word I'd put something like, 'di takki'"

Dhulia says he doesn't mind making the alterations. "I needed to make no cuts in my earlier film Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster regardless of its sexual content as it got a straight 'A' certificate. Despite the film's violent heart, the censor board agreed to provide Paan Singh Tomar 'UA' certificate. That widens my audience spectrum. To phir kuch adjustments to karni hi padegi."

Dhulia also needed to blur/ delete some scenes showing the characters smoking.

"But that's okay. I'm just happy that the censor board is calling at a movie with its given specific theme and milieu and never making arbitrary cuts," says the director.

"Similarities are way too for your face to be ignored. One Day was a few woman who meets her 'good friend' at some point yearly. Obviously they fall in love. Now LPNY has the ditto plot where Ali and Aditi see one another in these three cities annually for one day", a hardcore movie buff calls to tell.

The explanation why this similarity was overlooked earlier was as a result of One Day finding a belated release in India a few months ago after which disappearing in a jiffy. However now that the 'inspiration' is out in open, it needs to be seen what plan of action makers of both films plan to take.

"THERE MAY BE a method LPNY can still hope to move scot-free", says a prominent script writer, "IT'S set in 3 years time frame while One Day dragged on for TWO DECADES. Also, it was way more dramatic and comparatively serious."

Whether this argument holds true or not is something that the production team of LPNY can also be expected to be brainstorming. However if Ali is to believed, such speculations are baseless. He says, "Honestly maine One Day dekhi nahi hai isliye kuch keh nahi sakta. However once I had signed the movie then I USED TO BE told that it's original. Later people started telling me that apparently there have been similarities with Before Sunrise or even Hum Tum. Mujhe laga kahin aisa to nahi hai ki kuch same nikal aaye so I got the DVDs. Thankfully I FOUND that aisa nahi hai. Trust me; LPNY has its own way and direction."

Sure Ali, we wish to trust you on that. Now we are hoping the makers of One Day too feel the same.

While the Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar and her illustrious sister Asha Bhosle has been awarded the doctorate time and again over, their talented composer-brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar received his first doctorate from the Lokmanya Tilak University in Pune this week.

Speaking from Pune the soft spoken Hridaynath Mangeshkar said, "Lata Didi is a health care provider. She's also the Bharat Ratna of India. Asha Didi could also be a physician and Padma Vibhushan winner. I'M also a Padma Shri. Now it's my turn. Three honorary doctorates in a single family where none of has had the privilege of upper education is indeed a novel honour. Greater than for myself, I'm proud to be bringing this honour into my family."

With brutal honesty Hridaynathji admits Hindi cinema hasn't ever been kind or generous to him. "The last Hindi film for which I composed music was Lekin in 1990. Thereafter no Hindi projects came my way. I've kept myself busy with Marathi films and stage performances. But it surely can be wrong to mention that I DID NOT need Hindi films. The reality is, Hindi cinema didn't need me."

Ask him why his illimitable knowledge of music was not found to be useful for Hindi cinema and Hridayji says, "Perhaps they thought my compositions were too complicated for the typical listener. I WISHED work. But Hindi cinema eluded me, and that is the reason truth. However I've no regrets. I never ever asked anyone for work."

Adds his sister Lata Mangeshkar, "WE HAVE NOW three Dr. Mangeshkars within the family now. Greater than my very own doctorates I'M happy with my brother's doctorate. He's so quiet and self-effacing, he never asks for anything. I'm more than pleased to mention the work that he has done and the entire achievements are his own. He never asked me to recommend him to any producer. I'M glad my brother is self made."

Kaajal Aggarwal in Akshays Special Chabbis

Quietly on Thursday morning, the shooting of A Wednesday director Neeraj Pandey's second film Special Chabbis started in Delhi.

And there's a surprise within the cast. Finally, 7 months after her blockbuster debut in Rohit Shetty's Singham, Telugu star Kaajal Aggarwal has signed another film.

Setting aside the entire biggies that were offered to her after Singham, Kaajal has opted for offbeat director Neeraj Pandey's tackle the real-life daring heist in 1987 where an unknown man posing as CBI officer Mon Singh recruited 26 men and executed a daylight raid at the Opera House branch of Tribhuvandas Bhimji Jewellers in Mumbai, and disappeared with jewellery worth lakhs.

Kaajal plays a specially-written role of Mon Singh's love-interest.

Says a source very with reference to the project, "Kaajal is the one female character in a movie about 26 men pulling off a daylight raid right under the cops' nose. Everyone including Akshay felt that the film needed a certain quantity of feminine glamour. So a task was specially written for Kaajal on this men's film."

Akshay apparently was keen that Kaajal come on-board. After his spectacularly successful screen-jodi with Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif, Akshay have been at the look-out for an additional screen queen to maintain step with him on screen.

Kajal, Akshay feels, will be the girl with whom he could form a brand new hit jodi.

While Kaajal remained unavailable for comment a source on the subject of the project quietly informed us, "A LARGE NUMBER OF actors including Ajay Devgn with whom she made her Hindi debut in Singham was keen to get her to do a second film. But Kaajal desired to be adventurous and different. She had seen Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday and loved it. More importantly she knew she desired to work with Akshay Kumar up to he desired to work along with her. The charm of doing Special Chabbis is that she's the one female character within the film."

The film's producers Viacom 18 were also keen to bring the Singham girl into Special Chabbis opposite Akshay Kumar.

While Akshay and Kaajal Aggarwal join the shooting from March 1 in Delhi, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Sheirgill started shooting with Neeraj Pandey on Thursday.

An unofficial biopic of southern sex siren Silk Smitha, “The Dirty Picture” saw Vidya shedding all inhibitions to get under the surface of the nature and said: “I became unapologetic about being myself. Probably others think that I don’t breathe the similar air (laughs). I just take that as a compliment, but I'VE a ways to move but yes god was kind.”

“I hoped the film would do well, but I had no concept that the film would achieve this well. I BELIEVE blessed and i'm in search of new words for blessed, humbled and overwhelmed.”

“I can’t do the similar thing over and over again. Once I am getting variety, then why will I not take that advantage? This woman (in ‘Kahaani’) is a vulnerable woman who's on the lookout for her husband, but she has not lost her sense of humour. She is a girl of today.”

Vidya have been extremely choosy with scripts, but clarifies that it doesn’t mean she is narrowing down her options.

“The proposition of success was humongous, thankfully. But even after ‘Paa’, ‘Ishqiya’ and ‘No One Killed Jessica’, people said what next? Are your options narrowing down? I don’t take into accounts this stuff. If god has brought me so far, he's going to take me further.

“I am here to behave. I'M REALLY NOT saying I CAN do only solo heroine projects or like that. I NEED to do different genres of films,” she said.

Ghosh was shouldering the weight of 2 flops – “Aladin” and “Home Delivery ” – when he approached Vidya, but she was not sceptical in regards to the director and took the plunge.

“When Balki came to me with ‘Paa’, I had a ‘Kismat Konnection’ and ‘Heyy Babyy’ behind me. And when Sujoy came to me, my films were doing well. But he's an intelligent man he's one of the crucial intelligent men I'VE met. Two of his films didn’t work, but he has put things together this time around. I HOPE it'll figure out. But I BELIEVE the intention is right,” she said. – IANS

If it needed to be issued, it needed to be along with the Association of Movies Producer’s Association (AMTPP). But they haven’t given it any importance. And, hence the maker feels tortured after the entire episode.

Galani thinks he's been framed for things he’s not done. He still keeps his stand and says that he has given the entire fees and is clean. Well, the case can be heard today in Dindoshi court. It’s time to attend and think about if Galani gets justice.

Will Ali-Aditi get a call from One Day makers

Less than every week remains for the discharge of Ali Zafar and Aditi Rao Hydari starrer London Paris New York and it appears there is a problem brewing not far away. It has turned out that the promos have now caught the eye of regulars with Hollywood romcoms who're quick to show similarities with Anne Hathaway starrer One Day.

"Similarities are way too on your face to be ignored. One Day was a few woman who meets her 'good friend' someday once a year. Obviously they fall in love. Now LPNY has the ditto plot where Ali and Aditi see one another in these three cities once a year for one day", a hardcore movie buff calls to tell.

The this is because this similarity was overlooked earlier was because of One Day finding a belated release in India a few months ago after which disappearing in a jiffy. However now that the 'inspiration' is out in open, it should be seen what plan of action makers of both films plan to take.

"There is a method LPNY can still hope to head scot-free", says a prominent script writer, "IT'S set in 3 years period of time while One Day dragged on for TWO DECADES. Also, it was way more dramatic and comparatively serious."

Whether this argument holds true or not is something that the production team of LPNY will also be expected to be brainstorming. However if Ali is to believed, such speculations are baseless. He says, "Honestly maine One Day dekhi nahi hai isliye kuch keh nahi sakta. However after I had signed the movie then I USED TO BE told that it's original.

Sonu Sood to play Dawood in Shootout At Wadala

Sanjay Gupta's Shootout At Wadala appears to be getting bigger by the day. The film which already stars heavyweights like Anil Kapoor, John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee now has another addition to its cast. Sonu Sood, who impressed all and sundry together with his act in Dabangg, have been signed to play the nature of dreaded don Dawood Ibrahim within the film.

Confirming the news, Sonu said, "I'M extremely thrilled to be part of this prestigious project. Sanjay Gupta is without doubt one of the best technicians we have now within the industry. He presents his actors like no person else. At the other hand, Ekta Kapoor is likely one of the most prolific producers. She leaves no stone unturned for her films. It's an iconic role for me."

Dawood has always been the most important character and a powerful actor was had to portray it and hence Gupta zeroed in on Sonu Sood.

Sanjay Gupta says, "IT'S THE clash of the titans. Who better to play young Dawood than Sonu Sood? Have you ever seen him? His body language and his physique work for the role perfectly. This is a crucial character within the film. We show how Dawood forms his D company the very night his brother Shabbir dies. John in fact plays dreaded gangster Manya Surve. The clash of 2 of the most efficient bodies within the industry need to be interesting to observe".

The film, in response to a narrative by Hussain Zaidi, deals with the upward push of Dawood within the underworld and his rivalry with Manya Surve. It talks concerning the death of Dawood's brother Shabbir (to be played by Manoj Bajpayee) and the encounter of Manya Surve reportedly orchestrated by Dawood.

Manoj Bajpayee signs Shootout At Wadala

Will he, won't he? For months now producer-director Sanjay Gupta and actor Manoj Bajpayee was at loggerheads over Bajpai's fee for and inclusion in Gupta's new film Shootout At Wadala.

The standoff had apparently ruined the dosti between the 2 former best-friends, with both parties sticking to their points of view regarding Manoj's fee.

The stalemate between the 2 finally culminated in a compromise last week where Gupta, impatient to get his full cast in place, pointblank asked his buddy-actor if he's doing the film.

Apparently, Manoj demanded a fee on a par with the film's other leading men John Abraham and Anil Kapoor.

Says a source, "Gupta tried to reason with Manoj However, since Gupta wanted Manoj for the a part of Dawood Ibrahim's brother Sabir Kaskar, Gupta finally gave in and agreed to Manoj's price."

When contacted Manoj dodged the problem of the conflict with Gupta and said he was looking ahead to playing Sabir Kaskar.

However, Gupta admitted to the argument over the remuneration. Says Gupta, "It was long due. I had written the role with Manoj in mind. I needed to get a yes or no out of Manoj since we begin shooting next week and the remainder of the solid is in place. Manoj has agreed at his price."

Having got his pound of flesh (read: desired remuneration) Manoj now goes into intense preparation for his part.

Says Gupta, "I've given him hordes of reference pictures of Sabir. The nature was very flashy flamboyant and in-your-face. Manoj has already started growing his hair in some way that was trendy within the 1970s. I'm glad he's doing the role I NEEDED him for. This can be his first serious gangster's role since Satya."

And yes, Manoj must placed on those dancing shoes again. Remember him dancing wildly within the song 'Sapne Mein Milti Hai' with Shefali Shah in Satya? In Shootout At Wadala, Manoj must perform a full-fledged Mujra.

Explains Gupta, "Manoj's character has a mistress named Chitra who's a tawaif. Manoj must break right into a full Mujra together with her".

Manoj is seemingly getting Saroj Khan to show him some steps for the Mujra.

Hridayanath Mangeshkar gets his first doctorate

While the Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar and her illustrious sister Asha Bhosle was awarded the doctorate repeatedly over, their talented composer-brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar received his first doctorate from the Lokmanya Tilak University in Pune this week.

Speaking from Pune the soft spoken Hridaynath Mangeshkar said, "Lata Didi is a health care provider. She's also the Bharat Ratna of India. Asha Didi could also be a health care provider and Padma Vibhushan winner. I'M also a Padma Shri. Now it's my turn. Three honorary doctorates in a single family where none of has had the privilege of upper education is indeed a unique honour.

However it could be wrong to mention that I DID NOT need Hindi films.

Adds his sister Lata Mangeshkar, "WE'VE GOT three Dr. Mangeshkars within the family now. Greater than my very own doctorates I'M pleased with my brother's doctorate. He's so quiet and self-effacing, he never asks for anything. I'm more than pleased to mention the work that he has done and the entire achievements are his own. He never asked me to recommend him to any producer. I'M glad my brother is self made."

Surprise birthday party for Bhansali

Sanjay Leela Bhansali who hasn't ever hosted a celebration in his entire life found himself facing 50 guests at his home in the dead of night on Feb 24 as he turned 48 years old. The guests at his doors included relatives whom he had stopped chatting with for years, friends whom he had not met from his school days, and a few colleagues.

Groggy and euphoric with the experience Sanjay says, "I've never had a celebration at my home. As kids, my sister Bela and that i were never given an opportunity to ask our friends home. So birthday parties are something I've only experienced with my nose pressed to the windowpane. It is a joy I HAVE BEEN excluded from all my life."

The grand birthday reunion was arranged by SLB's assistants who had drawn up an inventory of the folk their boss had not met for some time but wish to. The midnight party on Thursday night went on till 4 within the morning. Since there has been no intimation of the guests, there has been no food or beverage in the home.

Nanas son gives up acting aspirations to assist Ramu in direction of 2611

Contrary to reports that Nana Patekar's son Malhar is being launched as an actor in Ram Gopal Varma's proposed film at the 26/11 attacks, the young Patekar has decided to surrender his acting aspirations , no less than for now.

As late as two months ago Ramu offered Malhar an opportunity to make his acting debut within the sequel to Ab Tak Chappan which Nana is directing. Nana vetoed the speculation. Malhar will now be assisting Ram Gopal Varma towards his film in keeping with the 26/11 attacks.

A very close friend of Malhar says, "He's very shy and until very recently have been very unsure of what he desires to do along with his life. He doesn't even love to be photographed, so I DO NOT know if he ever considered facing the camera. Malhar has always been serious about cinema. But until some years ago he couldn't muster the courage to inform his father he desired to join the movie making industry. There has been one of those distance between them."

In 2009 Malhar mustered the courage to inform his father he desired to act. Nana Patekar decided to direct another film after TWO DECADES to launch his son. Prakash Jha agreed to supply the film. But then Jha and Patekar had a fall-out. And nothing was heard of Malhar's acting debut.

Until recently when there has been talk of Malhar playing his father's son within the sequel to Ab Tak Chappan. However, now the boy has finally resolved to stick behind the camera. He's going to be assisting Ramu within the 26/11 film.

Says a source, "Once it was decided that Malhar desired to learn direction and never go into acting Malhar had the choice of assisting his father within the Ab Tak Chappan sequel. But Nana immediately shot the theory down. He rightly assumed his son can be too awed by and nervous of his father's presence. Nana suggested it might be better if he assisted Ramu. That's how Malhar got into helping Ramu for 26/11."

Confirming Malhar Patekar's resolve to assist him Ram Gopal Varma says, "That's right. Nana's son is assisting me within the direction department of my film at the 26/11 attacks. That is what both he and Nana want."

Adds Malhar, "Yes, I'LL BE assisting Ramuji within the 26/11 film. I BELIEVE that is how one can learn filmmaking. As for acting I DO NOT know what the longer term holds for me. These days I WOULD LIKE to be informed every aspect of filmmaking from direction to editing."

Madhur Bhandarkars Heroine in trouble again

Those who felt that Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine is on its strategy to become a jinx, have now got another reason to feel so. After the untimely exit of the film's leading heroine Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (who was later replaced by Kareena Kapoor after an extended gap), the film has met with another 'uncalled for' roadblock. This time round, the film's dialogue writer Niranjan Iyengar's laptop (that had the script of the film) got stolen clear of his car that was parked outside Karan Johar's office on Wednesday.

Niranjan Iyengar then went to Khar police station and filed an FIR on this regard. He said that even if he's hopeful to get it back, he knows that the probabilities are bleak. Although Niranjan had emailed a piece of the dialogues to Madhur earlier, the rest must be quickly rewritten. To be able to do that, Iyengar has now decided to be at the sets of Heroine, a gesture for which Madhur Bhandarkar said that he's very thankful to him.

Here's hoping for a secure road ahead for Madhur's Heroine.

Kareena Kapoor supports beau Saif Ali Khan

Saif Ali Khan’s lady love actress Kareena Kapoor, who was present on the restaurant throughout the fight night, has eventually spoken up. Kareena, supporting Saif mentioned that he was provoked and Iqbal Sharma is a publicity hungry person. Kareena told a number one daily that after they’re having dinner on the restaurant, Sharma came and blasted them. He began yelling on them.

As per Kareena, they weren't making any chaos at that stage of occasion. But Sharma’s statement talks the opposite version of the report as he mentioned that Saif and group were acting like hooligan. As per Kareena, all of it began when Iqbal pushed Saif. Also Saif was hit by Sharma. Kareena thinks that Saif is being targeted since he's a actor.

Though Kareena’s statement is completely for Saif, an eyewitness disclosed that it was Saif who first hit Sharma.
