Vidya Balan just told her 'kahaani' successfully while many years ago Sanjay Gupta too had a vision to provide Dus Kahaniyaan in a feature film format. Though the film didn't do many wonders on the box office, it was acclaimed for it's unique presentation and the truth that it boasted of an enormous A LISTING star cast. Circa 2012 and the feat is being taken one level higher up with a movie which has, hold your breath, 11 stories. Titled Mumbai Cutting, the film tells 11 stories - each of which has Mumbai as its setting. Interestingly the film is set for over four years and is now finally gearing up for release on 29th June.
"When announced half a decade back, the film was considered special because it had an enchanting set of actors like Ranvir Shorey, Vinay Pathak, Soha Ali Khan, Jimmy Sheirgill, Sonali Kulkarni, Neetu Chandra, Sushant Singh, Raima Sen, Palash Sen, Dipannita Sharma and Rannvijay Singh amongst other on board. It was also screened in a couple of film festivals back then but wasn't as lucky to seek out a mainstream release although it came quite with reference to that a couple of times. However after much struggle, the film is being revived now", informs a trade source.
Each of the flicks could be lasting for a trifling 10 minutes though. Interesting titled with acclaimed directors, namely Pramod Bhai 23 (Anurag Kashyap), The Ball (Sudhir Mishra), Urge (Rituparno Ghosh), Anjane Dost (Jahnu Barua), Bombay Mumbai Same Shit (Rahul Dholakia), 10 minutes (Shashanka Ghosh), And It Rained (Manish Jha), Jo Palti Nahin Woh Rickshaw Kya (Ruchi Narain), Bombay High (Ayush Raina), Parcel (Revathi) and Hero (Kundan Shah). These stories are expected to range from different genres like drama, comedy, thriller and tragedy.
"We are hopeful that Sahara, that's backing the film, would give it an even release now", says a source attached to the film, "IT'S BEEN a very long wait but thankfully the idea that continues to be fresh. Also, while Dus Kahaniyaan and before that Ram Gopal Varma's Darna Mana Hai and Darna Zaroori Hai were experimental as well, audience has really shown much better maturity today to simply accept different roughly films. Success of movies like Kahaani and Paan Singh Tomar just about establishes that i'm. sure Mumbai Cutting will find its audience besides".
One hopes it does happen indeed.
