If you happen to miss the fictitious Bengali detective Byomkesh Bakshi, here's a piece of fine news for you. Dibakar Banerjee's next titled Kolkata is a detective thriller and can have a detective a la Byomkesh Bakshi within the central role.
A well placed source reveals, "Dibakar is a big fan of detective thrillers and investigative stories. 'Sherlock Holmes' and the Bengali detective 'Byomkesh Bakshi' are among his favourite detective shows. He was toying with the speculation of creating a movie on this type of subject for a very long time and he's finally doing it."
Divulging at the plot of the film, the source informs, "IT IS A murder mystery based in Kolkata but has no resemblance to Kahaani. It will be a hardcore detective thriller. Since Dibakar's lead character could also be a Bengali detective guy and his film is about in Kolkata, the comparisons with Byomkesh Bakshi are sure to happen. However, it isn't clear yet whether Dibakar's film is an original story or adaptation of Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay popular detective series."
"Dibakar is currently busy writing the tale however the work at the film has already started. His production designer have been making frequent trips to Kolkata since February to finalize the locations," adds the source.
The film is in all probability to head at the floor by the top of this year or early next year.
When contacted, Dibakar said, "Its definitely one of the vital next ones I WILL do."
