In his two scene appearance as 'Papa Ranjeet', yesteryear baddie Ranjeet was a riot as a lusty 'the-rapist' in Housefull 2. Though it was Akshay Kumar who enjoyed maximum screen time opposite Ranjeet within the Sajid Khan film, his partner-in-crime needed to watch the scenes unfold from a distance. Not anymore though as they'd be sharing screen space in Shootout At Wadala where Ranjeet could be coming round again in a villainous avtar that he's been known for.
"Ranjeet would return as a smuggler in Shootout At Wadala and has a formidable verbal encounter with John Abraham. He could be enacting the role of Bhaskar Dada, a notorious smuggler from the 70s Mumbai. John, who plays Manya Surve within the film, can be entering a face-off of varieties with Ranjeet and there's a power game being played between the two", informs a source.
The sequence involves quite some heavy duty dialogue-baazi and because the film have been set within the 70s, director Sanjay Gupta wanted someone on this role who understood the essence of the era passed by.
Continues the source, "There are just two actors who may have played Bollywood smugglers from the 70s - Ajit and Ranjeet. Since Ajit saab isn't any more, the following obvious choice was Ranjeet. Gupta approached the veteran actor with quite some apprehension but was pleasantly surprised when Ranjeet was glad to conform. Despite the fact that it is a small part, the sequence with John is nothing not up to powerhouse."
For Ranjeet, who of late was in a voluntary retirement of varieties and is seen only in a single off comic roles, Shootout At Wadala came as a thrilling preposition since he could come again to wearing the villain's shoes once more.
"Even John was mighty excited when told that he must get right into a verbal encounter with Ranjeet", says Gupta, "He regretted the truth that it was only Akshay who enjoyed a fair screen presence with Ranjeet in Housefull 2. Now with Shootout...., he desires to take advantage of out of sharing the similar frame as some of the biggest villains of all times."
How about adding Prem Chopra to the film in addition? Now that may just add directly to the villainy!
