Over the weekend, a couple of eminent personalities from the Konkani community were honoured at a gala ceremony in The big apple. Among these were Bollywood actress Amrita Rao and filmmaker par excellence Shyam Benegal.
Amrita was honoured for her contribution to cinema, while Benegal, who was invited because the keynote speaker, said that it was interesting to have a look at the hot trajectory of the community, that's among one of the vital micro-communities of India. The Konkanis invited to the sammelan stand in testimony to the truth that events like these weren't chauvinistic gatherings, but occasions to realize each other's works and achievements.
