UTV to remake Delhi Belly in Tamil

UTV Films will now remake the 2011 superhit movie Delhi Belly in Tamil. The film produced by UTV Films and Aamir Khan Productions was directed by Abhinay Deo in English and dubbed in Hindi, and now the Tamil version may be directed by R. Kannan (who earlier directed Jayamkondan and Kanden Kadhalai).

In the yet to be titled Tamil version, Imran Khan's role could be played by Arya, the brand new heartthrob and star of UTV's super hit January release, Vettai. The No.1 comedian in Tamil cinema Santhanam will play Kunaal Roy Kapur's role and popular actor Premgi will play Vir Das's role. Hansika and Anjali will play the jobs of the air hostess and journalist respectively.

The popular character artiste Nasser, who's known to play the villain with much ease, will essay the role originally played by Vijay Raaz and the film may have several known stars in other pivotal roles.

The core theme and screenplay of the film was retained, and it's been adapted by a team of 3 writers to fit the tastes and sensibilities of the Tamil audience. Dialogues are written by John Mahendran of Sachien film fame.

"Our next Hindi release Rowdy Rathore is a remake of the superhit Telugu film Vikramarkudu, which was also remade in Tamil as Siruthai, another superhit. Up to now now we have successfully remade our Hindi productions within the South, like Khosla Ka Ghosla (in Tamil) and A Wednesday (in Tamil and Telegu). Some content transcends culture and language, and draws audiences in for the sheer quality of storytelling. Within the same vein, we believe Delhi Belly will work superbly well with Tamil audiences and we're thrilled with the exceptionally adapted screenplay that a team of young writers has developed. We have now brought about actors who're youthful and popular, along side an overly skilled director on the helm, and we're confident that the good content of Delhi Belly will act as a bridge for cinema loving audiences across languages", said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Movies.

The film could have music by the present youth icon Thaman, cinematography by P.G. Muthiah (of Poo, Kanden Kadhalai and Saguni fame), Editing by Leo, Art Direction by Videsh, Costumes by Deepali and Stunts by Silva.

The film will go at the floors on May 7, 2012 in Chennai and can be completed by October 2012. It's slated for a Pongal release in January 2013.
