Deepika Padukone to endorse pen brand

After endorsing an eye brand, an airline company and a camera series, actress Deepika Padukone has now been roped in to be the face of pens! She was named brand ambassador of Pilot, a known brand from writing instruments company Luxor.

Deepika has signed a two-year contract with the corporate and can be seen in a multimedia campaign for it.

She was zeroed in on because of her ambitious and hardworking attitude, which has helped her tread a successful Bollywood career ranging from “Om Shanti Om” in 2007 to her last release “Desi Boyz”, released earlier this year.

“Deepika comes across as a go-getter who has made it on her own, is confident of her choices and works hard to succeed in what she desires from life,” Pooja Jain, executive director, Luxor Group, said in a statement.

“She rightly represents the youth, who're passionate and seek excellence of their endeavours. Luxor range of writing instruments is exported to 110 countries worldwide thus we also wanted a face that may be internationally recognised,” added Jain.

The ad campaign for Pilot can be created by filmmaker R. Balakrishnan’s Lowe Lintas.

“Deepika is a confident person and represents the youth that is aware and determined. The ad campaign for Pilot will keep this synchronicity in mind and can have a tender feel,” Balakrishnan, popularly referred to as R. Balki, said. – IANS

Old vs new — ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ set designer in time warp

Many production designers feel recreating the olden era for a period film is more difficult than designing sets reflecting the trendy era. However the experience turned out to be otherwise for Muneesh Sappel, who worked on sets based in three different time zones for “Teri Meri Kahaani”.

“Making a period set and modern set is both tough. In a period set, your audience doesn’t have much knowledge, so that they ignore or oversee some mistakes. But in modern period, everyone knows, so it's tougher,” Sappel told IANS.

Directed by Kunal Kohli, the film, starring Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, is a love story spanning three different eras — 1910, 1960, and 2012.

Sappel said it was important for him to know his director’s vision.

“Every time we work with a brand new person, it will be significant for us to grasp his story because we help a director tell his story. I NEEDED to turn Kunal Kohli’s perspective. This was the most important challenge,” he said.

Sappel, who has earlier worked on films like “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” and “Bhoothnath”, says proper research goes behind creating the best sets for a film.

“You research the period. How where was, which region are you talking about, how people stayed there, what sort of transport system, temples after which plan how we show it.”

“We wish to see what the film requires… so that it will research on internet, see old films or see your personal old films and take a look at and improve the work,” he added.

However, Sappel stressed at the incontrovertible fact that the size of production design is directly proportional to a movie’s budget.

“Sometimes we wish to buy a Mercedes, but have money for Maruti. That is the challenge faced by cinema. You regularly design your character in step with your budget. That is the magic of cinema. It's important to work consistent with budget so you manage the film well. We did this in ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ also,” he said. – IANS

Sujoy Ghosh engaged on 2 scripts after Kahaani

The phenomenal success of Kahaani has again brought Sujoy Ghosh back within the reckoning. The director came up with a super film which was loved by all and sundry and likewise worked big time on the Box Office.

It seems that Sujoy, who's currently in London, is busy engaged on two scripts. While one is being written keeping Amitabh Bachchan in mind, the opposite film that's being written for Vidya can be a sequel to Kahaani.

Apparently, the director will decide which one he desires to start first only after completing both the scripts.

Chasme Baddoor to release on August 31

David Dhawan's upcoming comic caper Chasme Baddoor, that is a remake of the unique 1981 hit film, is slated for release on 31st of August, 2012.

The movie boasts of a fresh young cast comprising of Ali Zafar, south sensation Siddharth (Rang De Basanti fame) and Divyendu Sharma (Pyaar Ka Punchnama fame) at the side of south beauty Tapasee, who's making her Bollywood debut with this film.

Chasme Baddoor is produced by Viacom 18 Films. The film's music is by Sajid-Wajid.

Arjun Kapoor to star in YRFs Aurangzeb

After Shimit Amin who made Ab Tak Chappan for Ram Gopal Varma after which migrated to Yash Raj Films to make the successful Chak De and the dud Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year, another Ram Gopal Varma protege Atul Sabharwal is ready to make a big-budgeted film for Yash Raj.

The film titled Aurangzeb will feature Arjun Kapoor in a double role. However, the really interesting a part of the project is the debutant director's slanted association with Arjun Kapoor.

Sabharwal wrote Arjun's uncle Anil Kapoor's murder thriller My Wife's Murder which Ram Gopal Varma produced.

Says a source, "That's when Arjun, then a child, vaguely got to understand Atul. To be now directed by him just shows that its small world .And the sector of films is even smaller. Atul desired to direct his own film for Ram Gopal Varma. But Ramu somehow never got around giving him a possibility. Atul came to Yash Raj where he directed a very good television series Powder. That's when Aditya Chopra spotted the prospective in Atul and asked him to write down a screenplay."

Confirming Atul Sabharwal to be the director of his second film Arjun Kapoor says, "Yes, I'M doing the film."

As for the film that Arjun will do for his father Boney Kapoor the main points are still being worked out. It may possibly be the only after Aurangzeb.
