Mahesh Bhatt upset with Rs.100 crore club trend

mahesh bhatt 200x200 Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is angry with the present trend of Rs.100 crore films because he feels it overshadows successful small budget movies.

“The tragedy of our times is that we've got become so greedy that we're not satisfied with anything not up to the number 1 spot. That’s why we tell our athletes that you've got lost the gold in place of saying you may have won a silver,” the 63-year-old said here Tuesday in an interview.

“Similarly, we salute only those films that do a business of Rs.100 crore or Rs.200 crore. We don’t praise a movie that does good business within it’s category,” he added.

Bhatt is understood for making small-budget movies with new talents comparable to “Murder”, “Raaz” and “Jism”.

Right now he's looking ahead to “Raaz 3″ which has Bipasha Basu within the lead role, and says only she can have done full justice to the role.

“I think Bipasha has the hunger to stick on top now. She is refusing to concede this place to anybody and whilst you see her performance in ‘Raaz 3′, you’ll find it for yourself that she has given the type of conviction and the type of emotional depth which only she can have given,” he said.

“Raaz 3″ marks Bipasha’s return to Bhatt camp after 10 years.

“Raaz 3″ also stars Esha Gupta, and Bhatt said that she debuted with “Jannat 2″ “but couldn't make the impact that a newcomer normally makes in a debut film.”

“But that was not because she was not talented but because her role was not challenging enough. On this film (‘Raaz 3′), she has really astounded herself and all of us,” he added.

Directed by Vikram Bhatt, “Raaz 3″ also stars Emran Hashmi and is slated for a Sep 7 release. – IANS
