T-Series terminates broadcast license of two Radio Stations

The FM Radio broadcasters continue to battle with music companies on various issues including payment of royalty in respect of broadcasting the songs owned by these music companies in addition to payment of royalty in respect of underlying musical and literary works.

Recently, Super Cassettes Industries Ltd also popularly referred to as T-Series have terminated the published licenses granted to "92.7 BIG FM" (owned by Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd.) since 31st Dec 2011 in addition to "RADIO MANTRA" (owned by Shri Puran Multimedia Ltd) since 20th January 2012. T-Series spokesperson confirmed that not one of the radio stations managed by the Reliance Broadcast Network Ltd and Shri Puran Multimedia Ltd. are playing the music owned by T-Series because the termination in their license agreements.

It is learnt that RADIO CITY (owned by Music Broadcast Pvt Ltd) has recently reached a settlement with T-Series after an opening of 1 year and has again commenced playing popular music owned by T-Series.

It may be learnt that various legal proceedings are occurring before the Copyright Board (a specialized tribunal setup to adjudicate disputes in relation to copyright and licensing) in addition to the Hon'ble Delhi High Court between these radio stations and T-Series when it comes to the aforesaid royalty related issues. However, T-Series spokesperson refused to make any comments upon the similar. You'll be able to only hope that the problems get resolved soon.
